Move from Stape (or any host) without losing a single day of data
Your server container is yours: it lives in Google Tag Manager. Moving hosts means pointing it at a new server, testing, and switching one URL. Most moves take under an hour of work.
- 1
Keep your current host running
Nothing is switched off until the new server is proven. Your GTM server container (tags, clients, variables) stays exactly as it is: it lives in your Google Tag Manager account, not at the host.
- 2
Create your container here
Start the free trial, create a container and paste the same Container Config string from GTM (Admin → Container Settings → Manually provision tagging server). You get a working server URL in minutes.
- 3
Test with the preview server
Open GTM Preview for the server container and check that your clients and tags fire on the new URL. Your website still sends live traffic to the old host.
- 4
Connect your custom domain
Add a subdomain such as sgtm.yourshop.com (or reuse the one you have). We show the DNS records; SSL is issued automatically. Using your own domain keeps cookies first-party.
- 5
Switch the web container
In your GTM web container, change the server container URL (Google tag / GA4 transport URL) to the new address and publish. If you reuse the same custom domain, you only update the DNS record instead.
- 6
Watch both for 48 hours, then cancel the old host
Compare events in the new dashboard's live view and in Meta/GA4. When numbers match, cancel the old subscription. No pixel or tag needs to be rebuilt.
